First Post

Over the past few years I have gone back and forth quite a bit on whether or not I should start blogging. I've previously written one-off pieces for public facing internal blogs and 3rd party sites such as UXmag, but neither experience was gratifying. The topical and editorial constraints were no fun, and I was not writing for myself. All of the reasons I have avoided blogging -- reasons shared by many, it seems -- are outlined and torn down in this great post. So, here we are. I plan to do more with this site then just write, however. I've attempted to clarify my reasoning in the list below, followed by a list of stuff I hope to write about in the future.

Why I finally decided to create a website

  • It will allow me to publish writing which helps me clarify my thoughts on things
  • It will allow me to contribute to a community that I have taken so much from, but have given nothing back to
  • I have a backlog of viable post ideas that I want to write about
  • I was getting the itch to finally build something myself again
  • It will allow me to experiment with new technologies
  • I do not use Facebook, but still would like to have a web presence

Things I plan to write about here

  • Technology
  • My experiences as a product manager
  • Random tidbits about whatever city I am currently living in
  • Philadelphia sports and culture
  • Music I like
  • Books I've read
  • Projects I've worked on
